Atlantic Cape Hosts Local Elementary School Students at Junior Achievement Career Day at Cape May Campus

CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County campus hosted more than 60 students from the Woodbine Elementary School for Junior Achievement of New Jersey’s Career Day on April 16.

The students in attendance gained practical information about education and the many career opportunities that may ignite a spark of enthusiasm while helping them envision a bright future for themselves.

“We are so grateful for your leadership, dedication, energy, and gift of time and talent that made this event possible,” said Christy Biedron, vice president, Education, Junior Achievement of New Jersey. “Special thanks to our Career Presenters, including Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba and her team in Cape May for hosting this event and providing an exciting, professional venue that encouraged students to dream big.”

Other Career Presenters included representatives from Bank of America, Colliers Engineering, South Jersey Industries and the Federal Aviation Administration William J. Hughes Technical Center.

Many of the students that partook in the event came away with a positive outlook on their future career opportunities, as witnessed from their post-event comments:

“The best part for me was I got to learn about careers I didn’t know about and I found that I was interested in things I didn’t think I would be,” said Ayanna, an eighth grader;

“This has been an amazing educational opportunity. I am very excited to plan my future” said Daviana, a sixth grader;

“I learned about things, such as bridge building, electricity, gas and other things in general. It was a great experience and I am interested in my future” said Ava;

“I really liked the aviation booth. I learned about drag, weight, thrust and lift. I never knew that is how a plane works. I must try it again,” said Aleyshka, a seventh grader.

The Woodbine Elementary School faculty echoed their student’s sentiments.

“The career path survey is really excellent.  Our students do not reflect on themselves often, so it was great having them discover how and what they do may be a future interest for them,” said a Woodbine Elementary School teacher.
